Affordable EV with a Spacious and Comfortable Interior

The 2022 Nissan Leaf comes with new styling, a lower sticker price, and more trim levels. Nissan added a quick-charge port and a portable charging cable for added convenience. Nissan also added new standard features with semi-autonomous driver-assistive technology and an easy-to-use infotainment system. With several trims, buyers have several choices to meet their needs and budgets. All Leaf models are all-electric, with zero emissions and no need to stop at the gas pump.

All-Electric Performance

The Nissan Leaf EV comes standard with a 110 kW electric motor that delivers 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The Plus models come with a 160 kW electric motor with 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. The smaller motor comes with a 40.0-kWh battery pack, while the larger one comes with a 62.0-kWh battery. Buyers can use an e-Pedal to access the regenerative braking mode to get the most out of the battery.

The smaller battery pack in the Nissan Leaf EV gets approximately 149 miles on a charge, while the larger battery gets about 215 miles to the charge. Drivers who choose the S Plus Trim will get a range of about 226 miles. Drivers can charge the Leaf using a 120- or 140-volt power outlet at their homes and public charging stations.

With a 240-volt, Level 2 charger, the Leaf charges in about 7.5 hours. The Leaf Plus trims need about 11.5 hours. Buyers can also use DC Fast Charging Stations using the standard quick-charge port. This option adds 80 percent to the battery in 40 minutes. All Leaf models come standard with front-wheel drive.

Standard Driver-Assistive Safety Features

Both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have evaluated the 2022 Leaf. The IIHS gave it a “Good” rating on a handful of crash tests, while the NHTSA gave the Leaf four out of five stars on its crash tests.

Nissan outfits the Leaf with several standard driver-assistive features in its Safety Shield 360 Suite. They include the Rearview Camera, Rear Parking Sensors, Forward Collision Warning, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Door Alert, and Automatic High-Beam Headlights.

Buyers who want more safety features can add the ProPilot Assist semiautonomous driving system that includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver-Attention Alert, and the Surround View Parking Camera System.

High Tech Infotainment Features

The Nissan Leaf models come with the NissanConnect infotainment system with its easy-to-use, intuitive interface. Drivers can use the touchscreen, voice control, and physical buttons to access the features. All trims have an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth, four USB ports, and a four-speaker audio system.

Drivers who want more infotainment features can add navigation, a six-speaker audio system, or a premium Bose audio system with seven speakers.

Several Styling Choices

The base S trim and the S Plus come with cloth seats, automatic climate control, a push-button start, and proximity keyless entry. Bumping up to the SV trim and SV Plus trims, drivers get heated front seats and a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel. Exterior styling includes fog lights and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. The Plus trims add the larger battery and electric motor, as well as the DC Quick-Charge Port.

The top trim is the SL Plus which comes with the ProPilot Assist features for semi-autonomous driving. It also has genuine leather upholstery and the premium Bose seven-speaker audio system. This trim also comes with the premium 17-inch alloy wheels.
